Doctoral Research Study – Applied Aviation & Space Science
This study is being conducted by David W. Myers, Doctoral Candidate,
under the direction of Mallory K. Casebolt, Ed.D. faculty advisor at the
School of Education Foundations, Leadership and Aviation
Oklahoma State University
Approval: This study was approved by the Oklahoma State University Institutional Review Board (IRB-XX-XXX). If you have any further questions, please contact the IRB office at 223 Scott Hall, Stillwater, OK 74078, 405-744-3377 or at irb@okstate.edu
Purpose: This study explores the perceptions of aerospace industry professionals in space systems manufacturing and operations. The topic evaluates a specific technique for compliance with emerging regulations for orbital debris prevention. Specifically, the concept of atmospheric drag sails as an accepted practice for deorbiting satellites and upper stage launch vehicles in low Earth orbit will be examined.
Procedure: This study seeks the expertise of aerospace professionals with a background in space systems development or management. As a participant, you will view a 15-minute video for a passive deorbit system concept. After the video, you will be asked to complete a survey concerning your perceptions of the concept. Total time to watch the video and complete the survey is approximately 45 minutes.
Benefits: The findings from this research will led to recommendations to help developers of passive deorbit systems to create solutions that better meet the requirements and expectations of intended end-users.
Risks of Participation:As an online survey, there are no known risks to the participant, including emotional, psychological, legal, or physical pain associated with this study, any more than encountered in ordinary daily life.
